Company selling 'snortable' chocolate

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's safe to say there are millions of people who love chocolate.

A Florida company is introducing a new and unusual way for fans to enjoy the sweet treat.

The Washington Post reports that an Orlando-based company called "Legal Lean" has created a "snortable" chocolate called Coco Loko. It's being marketed as a legal high, giving users a rush and calm focus.

The product contains cacao powder, in addition to gingko biloba, taurine and guarana, all of which are normally found in energy drinks.

Coko Loco became available last month at U.S. stores, but has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration and it's not clear how the product will be regulated. It's also being sold on websites, including Amazon.

One lawmaker is calling on the FDA to investigate the powder. "It sounds sweet, but the health consequences could be anything but sweet. It's a new product that goes where no other dangerous product has gone right before, right to the candy aisle," said Democratic Minority Leader Senator Chuck Schumer.

There are currently no studies showing how it works, or whether it's safe to ingest.

A tin of the powder costs about $25.
