LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Sometimes there's nothing better than a good old-fashioned ice cream social in the middle of summer.

Saturday afternoon, families were invited out to the Farnsley-Moremen Landing along the Ohio River.

The event featured an ice cream eating contest, entertainment, a petting zoo, train rides and pony rides.

Families say it's nice to leave the air conditioning and enjoy the outdoors.

"We try to get out in the community and do stuff. We're always following stuff on Facebook a lot and find what activities there are to do," Vanessa Neagle said.

Visitors also had a chance to participate in an archaeological dig, or take discounted tours of the Farnsley-Moremen House.
