BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WDRB) -- A southern Kentucky highway was shutdown for hours Tuesday after a semi spilled a load of chicken.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Wes Watt said the truck driver overturned his rig in the median of the Natcher Parkway near Bowling Green about 1 p.m., which sent the whole chickens into the roadway closing all lanes.

The crash happened in a construction zone where the highway is restricted to one lane each direction. The driver told police he swerved to avoid a construction vehicle and lost control. He wasn't injured in the cash.

Northbound lanes between exits 6 and 7 reopened about two hours after the crash. A contractor was called to clean up the mess.
