Louisville group sends medical equipment to Haitian community

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville is playing a part in establishing a pediatric hospital in one of the poorest communities in Haiti.

Louisville-based Supplies Over Seas is sending a shipping container with medical equipment to Gonaives, Haiti. The supplies are collected from local hospitals and doctors.

"Children are going without any medical treatment, something as basic as a band-aid, something as complicated as a surgery for appendicitis, and children are dying from the lack of basic medical treatment," said Denise Sears with Supplies Over Seas.

Instead of going to a landfill, the old equipment is recycled and repurposed so it can save lives in other countries.

The container will reach Haiti by mid-August.
