GOSHEN, Ky. (WDRB) Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve and Louisville Family Fun are holding a day of activities on Sunday designed for the whole family that gives back to the community.

The fifth annual Family Fun Day will include door prizes, parade, crafts, face painting, Louisville Zoo animals, a water slide, activity booths, Mighty Titans obstacle course, fire hose splashdown, Papa Johns pizza and ice cream eating contest in honor of National Ice Cream Day.

This year's event marks a milestone for the nature preserve, celebrating the opening of its new playground and completion of the first phase. The nature preserve has been fundraising for the playground since 2014.

"Very few people actually realize that we're not a city park because we serve the community dawn to dusk, 365 days a year and we're always free. So, people of course assume but we are actually 100 percent visitor supported. So, with out kind people who make a donation or help us by volunteering or through financial support, we wouldn't be here and last year, we actually served 45,000 visitors," Tavia Cathcart Brown said, Executive Director of Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve.

While the event is no charge, organizers are accepting donations for the future phases.

Family Fun Day is Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve, located at 12501 Harmony Landing Road in Goshen. For more information, click here
