LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- LMPD is investigating after a 2-year-old girl appeared to have drowned in a west Louisville pool.

Officers were called to a home on Saunders Court in the California neighborhood around 12:30 p.m. Saturday. After a short search, they found the child floating in a pool at a nearby home on South 23rd Street.

Officers began CPR until EMS arrived. The girl was transported to Norton Children's Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

George Page, who lives nearby, saw the child pulled from the pool and emergency responders try to revive her.

“It’s very sad for a little kid that age to live a life that short and wind up just gone,” Page said.

Police found the girl in one of three un-fenced pools behind the home.

“They go down there all the time," Page said. "It’s like a little neighborhood, a little gathering thing. You know when it’s so hot, little kids go down there and swim, but they have people out there watching them when they are in the pool."

The man who owns the pools declined to comment on what happened.

The LMPD Homicide Unit is investigating the death.
