LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One person was shot and killed Saturday night in the Shawnee neighborhood.

LMPD said it happened just before 8 p.m. in the 400 block of 38th Street near the Academy @ Shawnee.

Police spokesperson Alicia Smiley said officers responded to the scene on reports of shots fired from its ShotSpotter system. When officers arrived, they found a black male in his late teens or early 20s dead in a parking lot behind an apartment building.

No arrests have been made. If you have any information in this case, you're asked to call the anonymous tip line at 574-LMPD.

"If people are willing to call because they heard shots being fired, then certainly they're going to be concerned enough to know that there is a killer that is going to be taken off the street with their assistance by giving us a call," Smiley said.

The LMPD Homicide Unit is investigating.
