LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Marvin Dantzler has a message for those that aren’t expecting much from the Yellow Jackets this season.

“Anyone who thinks this is a rebuilding year is going to be in for a surprise,”  said Dantzler.

Oh, you have to like the confidence from the new Yellow Jackets coach.

It’s what helped the 37-year-old Louisiana native get the job and then later the support of his team.

“He got our attention,” said junior Ukari Baker.  “He let us know that this is real.”

Dantzler has head coaching experience for high schools in both Oklahoma and Louisiana. He takes over for longtime head coach Ty Scroggins who guided the Yellow Jackets to another state final appearance last year.

Seeing as how Scoggrins won five state titles at Central, Dantzler knows he’s got some big shoes to fill but he and his team are not backing down from the pressure.

“You see them,” said Dantzler. “Up at six in the morning.  They’ve been doing it. It’s just getting them to buy into the culture. Once they do that, we’re fine. “

Dantzler inherits 15 returning starters from last year’s team including Baker, a star wide receiver. Dantzler’s not looking to totally reinvent the wheel as far as a strategy goes but expect a few wrinkles in the team’s new offensive attack.

“We’re more balanced,” said Baker. “Central is known as a running team but we got a little a little more passing now”

Opening up the offensive and with it, all kinds of possibilities.

“We’re coming hard,” said senior linebacker Luke Bowman. “This year we’re coming hard. Everyone is going to feel us this year
