Family members identify victim who died after double shooting in south Louisville
The victim's sisters say they also lost their parents earlier this year.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Homicide detectives are investigating after a fatal shooting in the Hazelwood neighborhood early Tuesday.
It happened in the 4000 block of Woodruff Avenue near Taylor Boulevard. That's where Metro Police spokesperson Dwight Mitchell says some men were arguing at the home about 4:30 a.m. when two men were shot.
One of the victims died at the scene. Family members have identified that man as 28-year-old Gerald "Junior" Sulzer. His body was found in the yard where police say the shooting happened.
Family members say Sulzer doesn't live in the neighborhood and they aren't sure why he was in the area.
Another man was also shot and taken to the hospital, but is expected to be OK.
Investigators say they are not looking for any suspects, and believe they have the shooter or shooters in custody.
Patrick Schartzer, who lives nearby, says he saw two people being taken into custody as well as part of the argument that police say led to the shooting.
"There was a person yelling," Schartzer said. "I'm assuming it was his friend -- the person who was laying down, his friend -- yelling. He was just saying 'You need to fight like a man! Fight like a man! Don't bring a gun to a hand fight,' or something like that."
Police have not said why the men were arguing.
Sulzer's three sisters say their parents passed away earlier this year, and this is another devastating loss for their family.
The LMPD homicide unit is investigating.
