Police say that when an employee tried to stop her, the suspect pulled an umbrella and attacked her.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville woman has been arrested after police say she assaulted a store employee with an umbrella during a robbery.
According to an arrest warrant, the incident occurred on July 6, just after 3:30 p.m., at a Dollar General store in Jefferson County, Kentucky.
Police say 35-year-old Shavon Allen walked into the store with an empty purse and filled it with merchandise. She then proceeded to leave the store without paying for the merchandise, according to the warrant.
When an employee of the store tried to stop her, Allen allegedly pushed her and assaulted her with an umbrella, before escaping with the stolen merchandise. The employee sustained a cut to her face and suffered back pain as a result of the assault.
Allen's alleged actions were captured on surveillance video, and the employee was able to identify her from a photo.
A warrant was issued for Allen's arrest on Thursday, July 13. She was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
Allen is charged with first degree robbery.
