Extreme heat prompts earlier garbage collection in Louisville district

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some Louisville residents may want to start putting their garbage cans to the curb the night before waste pickup.

That's because trash crews in the Louisville Urban Services District are picking up garbage one hour earlier in the morning. It's part of an effort to protect crews from heat.

Metro Public Works started collecting garbage, recycling and yard waste at 5 a.m. on Wednesday.

Trash collection will also start at 5 a.m. on Thursday and Friday.

"Residents should place waste out for collection anytime between 4 p.m. on the day preceding collection and 5 a.m. on collection day," a news release from Metro Public Works states. "Project Pickup bulk waste collection, which usually begins at 7 a.m., will instead begin at 6 a.m."
