LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Louisville City FC is facing two opponents Saturday: St Louis and extreme heat.

“I found out yesterday it was going to be about 103 (degrees), regardless of the index on the actual field. It’s going to be tough. To be honest, I would have rather have not known and just shown up to play. Now I ‘m just dreading it really,” defender Paco Craig joked after LouCity’s practice Thursday morning.

To counter some of the heat on the practice field, the team is taking plenty of water breaks and having lighter practices leading up to Saturday’s visit to St. Louis.

"Obviously it's really humid here as well, so you get a game-like situation. We come out here in the morning and try to keep it light -- get our work in but not be out here too long,” midfielder Brain Ownby said. “We need to save some energy for the game this weekend.”

Louisville sits at third in the United Soccer League Eastern Conference standings after Saturday’s 3-2 loss to rival FC Cincinnati. St. Louis is 13th in the conference. The two teams played to a scoreless draw to open the 2017 season.

“I think in the season opener, you never really know what to expect because you haven't gotten to see much of them. I think the way the season has gone, both teams have changed formations at times and personnel. It's hard to know what the personnel's going to be like Saturday. It's hard to know what the personnel's going to be Saturday. It's tough to make comparisons,” said LouCity head coach James O’Connor.

Louisville and St. Louis are scheduled for an 8:30pm Eastern Time start.
