Georgetown, Indiana woman sentenced to prison for Social Security fraud

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Georgetown, Indiana, woman has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to Social Security fraud.

According to a release from the Department of Justice, 40-year-old Michelle South will spend 10 months in prison.

Authorities say South stole more than $113,000 from in Social Security funds.

Officials say from March 2001 to March 2016, South hid the fact that she had been living with her husband in Georgetown, Indiana. According to authorities, South claimed on several federal forms that she had been living apart from her husband with three children, and did not have any other income sources.

Once her prison sentence is completed, South will be required to pay $114,633 in restitution and serve three years under supervised release.
