Bus drivers prepared to battle street construction in downtown New Albany

Posted: Updated:

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) -- School buses getting ready to hit the road in Floyd County will have more obstacles to dodge this year.

The two-way conversion is in full swing in downtown New Albany as much of Spring Street is down to one lane.

The transportation director at New Albany Floyd County Schools said bus drivers are ready for any delays construction may cause.

"We do have a little bit of leeway in there," NAFCS Transportation Director Eric Reid said. "So if they're five to 10 minutes late, we're not pushing them to get there."

If there's an accident in the construction zone, the police department notifies bus drivers to help them avoid the area.

If it's a worst-case scenario, and a bus can't get your child home, it will return to the school it came from. Parents would then have to pick up their kids.
