LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --  The death of an elderly woman earlier this month is now being investigated as homicide after police said a robbery occurred weeks before.

Claudia Higdon, 74, was robbed at gunpoint in June at her home on Siesta Way. She died on July 20.  Now, Louisville Metro Police homicide detectives are investigating the case and to see whether Higdon died as a direct result of the robbery.

"After the robbery, she was diagnosed with a condition that stemmed directly from this robbery," said Lt. Emily McKinley with LMPD's homicide unit. "She ultimately succumbed to that condition."

Police said Robert Ray and Angela Chancellor were responsible for the robbery. They were arrested in June for a string of robberies of senior citizens.

"They took a healthy woman who was enjoying life who just loved everything she did," said Gary Frye, who lived next door to Higdon. "They pretty much took her life."

The Commonwealth's Attorney's office will decide if they will now be charged with manslaughter or murder.

"In a matter of a few minutes, her whole world changed, and that's a shame," Frye added.
