Memphis-based company churns out millions of glasses for Aug. 21 solar eclipse

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A West Tennessee company is frantically churning out special glasses to view the Aug. 21 solar eclipse.

Forrest Sanders of WSMV reports that Mephis-based American Paper Optics is playing a vital role in helping tens of millions see the eclipse safely.

"We've been marketing for two years, but we couldn't get anybody to pay attention," said John Jerit, owner of the company. "Come January, it clicked. We'll be shipping them out all the way until Aug. 18. Of course, the big day is the 21st."

Jerit says his company's web site is getting 1,000 orders a day.
