Ribbon cutting ceremony held at Waggener High School for newly refurbished track

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Current and former student athletes came together Wednesday to take the first lap on a newly refurbished high school track.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday morning Waggener High School's running track.

The renovated track will be used by all athletes at the school.

"Naturally (it's) a train(ing) facility for our student athletes that all will be able to use. Not only the track team, but the basketball team, the football team, the soccer team will be able to come out here. The surface will be a lot more user friendly to the shins and the knees," said Athletic Director James Dumstorf.

The refurbished track is a joint effort between Waggener High, JCPS, the City of St. Matthews and Louisville Metro Council, and other sponsors.

Alumni of the track program say they are excited that the school will now be able to host track meets.
