WKU Football rolls into Louisville Thursday night for annual kickoff party
LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) -- The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are hosting a kickoff party Thursday night in Louisville.
First-year head football coach Mike Sanford and several Louisville area players will be at the event. The event starts Thursday night at 6:00 at Buffalo Wild Wings in St. Matthews. WDRB Meteorologist and WKU alumni Jude Redfield will emcee the event.
The kickoff party will feature autographs, prizes and giveaways and food specials. Sanford, select WKU Football assistant coaches, WKU Director of Athletics Todd Stewart and select Louisville area Hilltoppers will also speak at the event.
Fans will have the chance to get their photo taken with the 2015 and 2016 C-USA Championship trophies as well as all three of WKU's bowl trophies, including the Bahamas, Miami Beach and Boca Raton bowls.
"It's really important for our program to be in Louisville," Sanford said. "It's not the actual capital of the state, but for all intents and purposes - economically, socially, culturally - Louisville is as important an area as there is, both in recruiting and in developing relationships with our alumni," said coach Sanford.
There are 17 players from 11 different Louisville area high schools on the Hilltoppers 2017 roster.
The Hilltoppers open fall camp on Monday, July 31, are projected to win the Conference USA's East Division
WKU opens the 2017 season on September 2nd at home against Eastern Kentucky. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. central time.
