LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A young Louisville boy gunned down in his own home was honored by Metro Council.

Council members paused to remember 7-year-old Dequante Hobbs before Thursday night's meeting.

Surrounded by his loved ones, Councilwoman Barbara Sexton Smith read a proclamation. Dequante was sitting at his kitchen table, when a stray bullet hit him back in May.

His mother Micheshia Norment was overcome with emotion and says she prays someone will come forward soon. "What do you say when you and your child is in your house minding your own business and bullet comes in your window. That's all you can do is pray for justice and pray for change."

After the meeting, council members displayed the new bookmarks Dequante's foundation "Justice 4 Lil 1's" is giving away.
