Frankfort doctor helps deliver baby hours before she gives birth
Dr. Amanda Hess was scheduled to have her own baby Sunday night when she heard another soon-to-be mother screaming.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Frankfort doctor stepped in to help deliver a baby just hours before welcoming her own bundle of joy.
Dr. Amanda Hess was scheduled to have her own baby Sunday night when she heard another soon-to-be mother screaming. The woman was completely dilated and ready to have her child, but the on-call doctor was still on his way back to the hospital after leaving for a break, so Dr. Hess says she put on another gown and some boots and delivered the patient's baby.
"She was just glad to be able to get to push and have the baby out and not have to wait any longer," Hess said.
"You know I love doing what I do," she added. "I love taking care of mothers and babies, and you really ... a lot of doctors are always thinking of their patients, even when they're a patient themselves."
Just hours later, Dr. Hess welcomed her own baby, Ellen Joyce, to her family.
