LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's hoping to be cut above the rest and it's pretty unique.

Kentucky's first indoor ax-throwing venue held its grand opening in Louisville Saturday.

"Flying Axes" is located on the edge of Nulu and Butchertown on Clay Street, next to the David Armstrong Extreme Park.

Ax-throwing is a recreational sport, where players compete by throwing axes at wooden targets.

Those who attended the opening were able to participate in 10-minute throwing sessions.

Although ax-throwing might not seem like the safest sport, workers say it's as safe as it gets.

"We have walls on both sides, there's rubber mats, and more importantly we have a coach with you the entire time you're here. So they're keeping score, they're enforcing safety, and they're teaching you how to throw," COO of Flying Axes Zack Pennington said.

Officials at Flying Axes say they plan to start an ax-throwing league this fall.
