LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Expect changes at the 2017 Kentucky State Fair.
A consultant who's planned parking and logistics for Super Bowls helped draw up a new traffic and parking plan. For the first time, there will be express lanes designated to help visitors save time getting into the fair.
Fair-goers must pre-purchase both parking and admission tickets in order to use the express lanes, which are located at Gates 1, 3, 4 and 6. The lanes will be clearly marked with yellow and black signs. Gate 1 on Phillips Lane will have two express lanes.
Designated handicapped parking will be in the lot closest to the Kentucky Kingdom main entrance. Free parking is available across Phillips Lane from Gate 1 on weekends, beginning at 5 p.m. from Friday through Sunday.
Also new this year, fair-goers won't get to decide which parking lot to park in. There will be traffic controllers directing you to a parking lot. If you prefer a certain lot, fair officials recommend some pre-planning.
The fair is moving the midway directly in front of Gate 1. Parking will be mainly behind the Kentucky Exposition Center where the midway was located.
Fair-goers can save with advance discount parking available on Kentucky State Fair's app and website until midnight Aug. 16, as well as at participating Kroger locations until 10 p.m. on Aug. 16. Parking is $5 in advance or $10 if purchased after Aug. 16.
The Kentucky State Fair also launched a new app, which will offer traffic notifications and information about which gate to use when entering. The app can also be used to buy admission or parking tickets. The free app is available Google Play and the App Store.
Advance tickets are available at participating Kroger locations through 10 p.m. on Aug. 16 and on the fair app until midnight.
