LMPD Assistant Police Chief accepts new job as chief in Kansas

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- After dozens of LMPD officers announced their intentions to retire earlier this week, the department will soon lose another high-ranking officer.

LMPD Chief Steve Conrad made the announcement on Facebook Thursday that assistant chief Greg Burns is leaving for a new job after being named the new Chief of Police for Lawrence, Kansas.

Burns will be the city's first black police chief.

Conrad wrote that losing Burns is bittersweet, but not surprising.

No word yet on when Burns will leave to begin his new position.
