Indiana school district cancels classes until Monday due to bus problems

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One Indiana school district had such a problem with school buses on the first day of school that it has canceled classes for the rest of the week.

Muncie Community Schools switched bus companies this year to save money and it didn't go well. Some students were picked up late and others were not picked up at all.

In some cases, students apparently had to tell bus drivers the next stop on their routes.

"I don't even know what bus my daughter is taking home!" said parent Nicole Courtney "How am I supposed to know where she's at? What's going on?"

District leaders say they needed to cancel school on Thursday so they could review transportation plans.

The superintendent said classes won't resume until Monday.

A few months ago, the state took over the district because of money problems. That's one reason it switched bus companies.
