LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police are investigating after shots were fired near a local private school.

It happened shortly after 3:15 p.m. Thursday near Evangel Christian School at 5400 Minor Lane, south of the interchange between I-65 and Fern Valley Road.

According to a Metrosafe supervisor, someone called to report that there was an "active shooter" at the school and it was placed on lock-down. When police arrived, they  found no signs of a shooter, but they did find shell casings on the ground near the school.

LMPD Spokesperson Vadim Dale said LMPD SWAT teams arrived on the scene and cleared the school. No children were on campus at the time.

“We have recovered some shell casings in the area," Dale said. "technically not on the property of the school.”

Preliminary investigation shows shows shots were fired on the north side of the school and police do not believe the school was a target.

The investigation continues as police work on developing leads. 

No one was injured.
