Tech expert discusses trends, ways to save on school supplies
Students and parents are paying more for school supplies this year. A representative from Best Buy talks trends and possible ways to save.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Students and parents can expect to spend ten percent more in back-to-school supplies this year over last year, according to the National Retail Federation, reaching $83.6 billion.
According to Michael Silvera, Computer Supervisor for Outerloop's Best Buy, the most popular item is computers with inking capabilities.
"They're able to write on the screen, take notes on the screen. So, it completely eliminates the need for notebooks or physical paper in general. So, that's one of the biggest trends that we're singing this year and last year and the year before that," Silvera said.
Gaming and two-in-one laptops (a computer that can be converted into a tablet) have also been a hit.
Best Buy offers its back to school student discount program each year. Sign up here for possible savings.
