LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Conservation officers are investigating a man was killed in an ATV accident in southern Indiana.

According to a news release, the accident happened Saturday morning in Perry County, Indiana, near Hoosier National Forest.

Officers responded around 11 a.m. to a cornfield off Oliver Road, where 54-year-old Donald Gill of Leopold, Indiana, was training his dogs for squirrel hunting on private property.

His dogs ran home, which worried Gill's family and prompted a search.

Gill was found pinned under his overturned Polaris ATV by officers and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was not wearing a helmet or using the ATV's safety belts at the time of the crash.

Conservation officers want to encourage riders to always wear a helmet and the necessary safety equipment when riding on or operating an ATV.
