Still installed at Old Forester Distillery, construction expected to be complete by late spring

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It was a sight to see on Main Street in downtown Louisville Saturday as a 4,700 pound still was installed into the Old Forester Distillery.

The column still is just 24-inches wide, but 44-feet tall, so it required a specialized crane just to get it into the building.

The still was raised up and over the several story facade, into the distillery and affixed to the interior wall.

Workers say it's nice to have the "heart" of the distillery installed.

"The still is where we actually distill the whiskey. The fermentation process makes the mash, the whiskey is distilled in the still. That's what winds up going in the barrel," project manager Mike Beach said.

Construction on the Old Forester Distillery is expected to be complete late next spring.
