Hundreds participate in Splash 'n' Dash 5k to benefit Norton Children's Hospital

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Running a 5k and keeping cool at the same time.

That was the goal for hundreds of runners who participated in Saturday's Splash 'n' Dash 5k at Louisville's Waterfront Park.

Runners went through 13 splash zones throughout the race.

For participants, it was the perfect cool down, but organizers said the splash zones had a deeper meaning.

"There are splash zones and water stations along the course. The reason for those, they're in memory of Max Gilbin. He passed away several years ago of a heat-related illness, so those splash zones are keeping the body temperature of our participants down, keeping them cool, and having fun," Courtney Gatti said.

The Splash 'n' Dash benefited Norton Children's Hospital.

Participants were able to pick and choose which area of the hospital they'd like to donate to.
