Veteran's gravestone missing for nearly 50 years returns home

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A veteran's gravestone is returned, after it was missing for almost 50 years.

The gravestone belongs to a World War Two veteran, and was found in backyard in Fairdale.

Corporal Fred Baker, a Bronze Star recipient who died in 1967, was thought to be buried in an unmarked grave in Ohio.

But recently, his gravestone turned up in an overgrown backyard in the Louisville area. How it got there is still unknown.

It was later discovered that Baker was, in fact, buried in Louisville.

Saturday morning, UPS made a special delivery and brought the gravestone to Louisville Memorial Gardens.

Baker's son, American Legion members, and a Patriot Guard were all there for the delivery, and a short ceremony at Baker's gravesite.
