Police say shooting victims drove to hotel on Preston Highway from Guardian Court
Police say they now know where the victims were shot before they drove to a nearby hotel.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One man is dead and another man is in the hospital after a double shooting early Thursday morning.
Police were called to the Sleep Inn on Preston Highway near Phillips Lane around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, when they found the two victims with gunshot wounds inside a car.
Both men were taken to University Hospital, where one victim, 25-year-old Richard Ford, died from his injuries.
Police said the second victim's injuries are not life-threatening.
After several hours of investigation, LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said homicide detectives determined that the men were shot in the 6100 block of Guardian Court, which is not far from Preston Highway where the hotel is located.
"I've had the cops called here ... I don't know how many times," said Debbie Curl, who lives at the apartments. "I've been scared since day one I moved in here."
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office said Ford was shot in the head while sitting inside a car.
"Apparently, these individuals drove here to the hotel, and police were called here," Mitchell said.
A manager at the Sleep Inn said neither victim entered the hotel.
Police are still searching for suspects.
