LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Former Jefferson County Public Schools superintendent Donna Hargens has been named a finalist for a top job in Arizona.

Hargens is a finalist for the superintendent job for the Tucson Unified School District, a district in southern Arizona with an enrollment of approximately 47,000 students.

She is one of four candidates scheduled to meet the public in a series of meetings next week, which includes the district's current interim superintendent Gabriel Trujillo. Hargens is the only candidate without ties to Tucson. According to the district's demographics, 64 percent of students in TUSD are Hispanic, compared to about 10 percent in JCPS.

Hargens resigned from JCPS July 1, after coming under scrutiny for her leadership.

The 59-year-old came to Louisville in 2011 from the Wake County, North Carolina, school district where she had been chief academic officer and served as interim superintendent for about a year before taking the job in JCPS.

Former Doss High School principal Marty Pollio is the JCPS interim superintendent. The board has announced plans to hire a search firm to look for a permanent superintendent.
