LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Ballard High School's site-based decision making council voted unanimously 7-0 to select Jason Neuss to be the school's next principal during a special-called meeting on Thursday night.

Neuss has been an assistant principal at Doss High School. He was one of five candidates to be interviewed for the job.

The SBDM decision to select Neuss still has to be finalized by Jefferson County Public Schools Acting Superintendent Marty Pollio. That move could happen as early as Friday.

Ballard, located in eastern Jefferson County, has an enrollment of about 2,000 students.

Ballard has been without a principal since early July when Staci Eddleman was named the director of Title I/Title II services for JCPS. She had been principal at Ballard since February 2015.

Once approved by Pollio, Neuss will be only the fifth principal in Ballard's history. The school opened in 1968; Patrick Crawford, Sandy Allen, Jim Jury and Eddleman are the four others who have served as principal.

Neuss could not be reached for immediate comment late Thursday.

With less than a week left before the first day of classes, JCPS has only one principal vacancy remaining -- at Southern High School. The school's previous leader, Bryce Hibbard, retired from JCPS on July 31 to take the middle school principal post at Christian Academy of Louisville.

Pollio told WDRB News he expects to fill the vacancy at Southern as early as Monday.
