LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The first day of school for JCPS is just days away, and now a thousand more students have what they need to start the year.

Unity Jam was held Saturday at The Darrell Griffith Athletic Center, where a thousand children were provided with backpacks full of school supplies.

The event was organized by Norton Healthcare, who provided free health screenings for those who may not be able to afford healthcare.

"Access to Healthcare from all aspects ... behavior health, physical health, wellness, self-improvement, everything that you can possibly imagine is here today," President and CEO of Norton Healthcare, Russell Cox, said.

The first day for school for JCPS students is Wednesday, Aug. 16.
