LOUISVILLE, KY (WDRB) -- Visitors who attend the Kentucky State Fair can expect to see some changes starting on Thursday.

The most noticeable is the location of the rides and the fair’s midway, now named "Thrill Ville." The midway's former location was parking lot L near Kentucky Kingdom.

Rides will now be located in the center of the fairgrounds at lot N between the west and south wings.

Entering the fair at parking gates 1, 3, 4 and 6 will also be quicker for those who pre-purchased their tickets online thanks to new express lanes.

“If you prepaid, all you do is go through the line, you get your ticket scanned, and you keep going through rather than stopping, having to pay, having to get your credit card out,” said VP of Communications Amanda Storment.

On Tuesday afternoon, crews assembled many of the more than 50 rides which will make up the midway. Safety checks will be performed on Wednesday.

Thirty-seven percent more handicapped spaces are being provided this year, as well as more food tents and more local aspects represented through craft beer, food and live music.

Inside the exhibition halls, much is staying the same. Nearly 1 million square feet of exposition space is being used to allow for every entry to be displayed, regardless if it won a ribbon or prize.

“I think for the most part, the change is going to be good," said Sharon Spencer with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture who is also a vendor. "A lot of people didn’t know they actually had carnival rides, so this wa,y hopefully it’s going to get some more attention."

The fair is still looking to hire a number of positions over the next week and a half. Those interested in a position can pick up an application at gate 4.
