LEITCHFIELD, Ky. (WDRB) -- An elderly woman claims she was attacked by a bird while shopping inside a Kentucky Walmart.

"It was just like a softball hit me, all of the sudden ... POW!" Wilma Johnson said. "It was a bird."

The 72-year-old said she was buying shoes at the Walmart on Elizabethtown Road in Leitchfield last week when, she claims, she was attacked by a blackbird.

"When I checked out, I told the lady they needed to do something about them birds because I just got hit by one," she said.

Johnson's grandson said when he returned to the same Walmart on Tuesday, he captured video of birds perched near the lights. One was spotted flying from the ceiling.

Johnson said she reported her alleged run-in with the bird to management.

"I filed a complaint because they do need to get the birds out," she said.

Walmart's corporate office released to us the following statement:

"We want everyone who visits our stores to have a safe experience, and we take this matter seriously. At this time, we have been unable to confirm the customer's claim."
