Louisville woman accused of stealing man's wallet -- from courtroom
Authorities say while he was appearing before a judge, she was snatching his wallet -- and courtroom surveillance cameras captured it all.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville woman has been arrested after authorities say she stole a man's wallet while they were both sitting inside a courtroom.
According to an arrest warrant, it happened on April 17, in Jefferson County District Court room 302.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says 23-year-old Chaunae Brown was sitting in the courtroom, when a man's name was called and he was asked to appear in front of the judge.
When he got up, he didn't notice that his wallet fell out of his pants pocket and landed in the seat. The value of the wallet and its contents was over $1,000.
According to the arrest warrant, Brown reached over and picked up the man's wallet, and didn't give it back.
Authorities say the victim came back to the courtroom to look for his wallet, but Brown had already left.
A police report was filed, and sheriff's deputies were able to review the courtroom surveillance video. According to the arrest warrant, Brown was later confronted and admitted to taking the wallet.
A warrant was issued for her arrest on Monday, June 12, and she was taken into custody Tuesday morning. She's charged with theft of property mislaid or delivered by mistake.
Brown is currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections.
