Kentucky State Fair visitors react to new layout

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -

Visitors to the Kentucky State Fair may have noticed some major changes this year.

They start at the front entrance. New express lanes give fair-goers who pre-purchased tickets online a fast pass through the front gates.

"It's cheaper and faster," said one man driving into the fair Friday.

Handicapped visitors have their own parking lot, located behind the midway. This year, the fair offers 37 percent more handicapped parking spaces.

Sheryl and Ambrose French said they noticed the difference.

"It means a lot, because we have to stop and sit," they said. "It's better for anybody. For the handicapped, it's great."

The midway, now called "Thrill Ville," has a new home in front of Freedom Hall. Visitors like Cati Loeser liked the new layout.

"It's not as far away, so people aren't going to be as hot trying to get all the way to the back to see what's going on," she said. "It makes it easier for kids to walk around. I think it's really good."

Not all fair-goers embraced change.

"Personally, I'd rather walk the (extra) distance because I'm trying to play Pokemon Go," Isaiah Tussey said.

The fair goes through the Aug. 27.
