LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Authorities have released the name of the man killed in a crash that happened on I-71 North.

The victim was 44-year-old Charles Wharton, according to Deputy Coroner Michael Haag.

Officials say Wharton died from multiple blunt force trauma.

The crash happened just before 8 p.m. Saturday on I-71 North at I-264.

LMPD Spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said a black Corvette was traveling north on I-71 at a high rate of speed when Wharton, who was driving the vehicle, lost control and hit a guardrail. Wharton was ejected from the vehicle and was taken to the hospital, where he died.

A female passenger was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
