BOZICH | Trinity, St. X, Male hold WDRB poll spots as Elizabethtown gains

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – One score went unreported from the first weekend of local high school football:

Kentucky 3, Indiana 0.

Trinity, St. Xavier and Male, the top three teams in the initial WDRB High School Football Top 10, played opponents from Indiana last week. The three Louisville schools won by a combined margin of 60 points.

No wonder they remained unanimous picks in the top three spots in the second edition of the WDRB poll.

Keep an eye on Elizabethtown. The Panthers moved into ninth in the poll after routing Franklin-Simpson last week. They also gained 12 spots in the Kentucky state rankings at MaxPreps.com, advancing from No. 30 to 18.

Here is this week’s poll:

1. Trinity (1-0, 70 points, 7 first-place votes) – The Shamrocks played one of the highest ranked teams in Indianapolis and took the Carmel Greyhounds apart.

Schedule: Beat Carmel (Ind.) 31-3 last week; at Warren Central (Ind.) Friday.

2. St. Xavier (1-0, 63 points) – The Tigers were tested by one of the strongest programs in Indianapolis and Will Wolford’s team delivered.

Schedule: Beat Indianapolis Cathedral, 35-28 last week; idle this week.

3. Male (1-0, 56 points) – The Bulldogs’ high-tech offense continues to percolate.

Schedule: Beat Floyd Central (Ind.) 35-10 last week; at Ballard Friday.

4. Christian Academy (1-0, 46 points) – Stefan LeFors has the Centurions rolling again.

Schedule: Beat South Oldham, 28-14; host Eastern Friday.

5. Pleasure Ridge Park (1-0, 43 points) – The Panthers routed Valley but they’ll be challenged by Bowling Green, ranked fifth in Kentucky by MaxPreps, after defeating North Hardin last week.

Schedule: Beat Valley, 41-6; Host Bowling Green Friday.

6. Central (1-0, 30 points) – The Yellow Jackets delivered a stout defensive performance in their first game for new coach Marvin Dantzler.

Schedule: Beat Manual, 7-0 last week; at Western Friday.

7. DeSales (1-0, 28 points) – The Colts looked formidable again while handling Ballard.

Schedule: Beat Ballard, 37-22 last week; host Butler Friday.

8. Fern Creek (1-0, 24 points) – The Tigers can make a statement this weekend against Manual.

Schedule: Beat Seneca 52-0 last week; host Manual Friday.

9. Elizabethtown (1-0, 16 points) – The Panthers looked overpowering in their season opener.

Schedule: Beat Franklin-Simpson, 55-23 last week; idle this week.

10. Shelby County (1-0, 3 points) – Fairdale was no match for the Rockets last week.

Schedule: Beat Fairdale, 49-12, last week; host Atherton Friday.
