Voters reject $95M referendum for West Clark schools

Posted: Updated:

SELLERSBURG, Ind. (AP) - Voters have overwhelmingly rejected a $95 million referendum in southern Indiana's West Clark Community Schools.

About 70 percent of voters turning out for Tuesday's election voted against the measure that would have funded improvements in the schools.

About $65 million of the $95 million would have been used for new construction and renovation at Silver Creek High School. The remaining money would have been used at seven other buildings across the Clark County district.

Superintendent Chad Schenck said he was disappointed by the election results. He says the 33 percent voter turnout was larger than he had predicted and what administrators were told to expect.
