LMPD asking for public's help to name newest K-9

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Metro Police Department needs your help -- but not for solving a crime. Police want to know what the name of the department's new dog should be.

On Tuesday, students at Walden School came up with a list of names for LMPD's new K-9. LMPD will narrow the list down to five names. Then, starting Thursday, you can vote for your favorite.

The male dog is a Belgian Malinois and is about two years old.

"Our four-legged officers are just as important sometimes as our two-legged officers, and they work just as hard to serve and protect our community," said Tracie Texas Shugart, executive director of the Louisville Metro Police Foundation.

Voting starts Thursday on LMPD's website and runs through Dec. 1.
