LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jeffersontown Police have arrested a woman authorities say stabbed a man in a wheelchair.

Darlene Smith, 58, was arrested Tuesday at her home in the 2000 block of Biggin Hill Court, near South Hurstbourne Parkway.

According to an arrest report, an officer responded on a report that a man had been stabbed.

Officials say the victim stated that he and Smith got into an argument and that both had been drinking alcohol.

Police say both Smith and the victim are wheelchair bound.

Authorities say Smith got a butcher knife from the kitchen and said "I'm going to kill you." According to police, Smith went over and stabbed him three times in the left arm.

Investigators say the victim backed his wheelchair up to avoid being stabbed a fourth time. Police when the victim did this, Smith fell out of her wheelchair.

Officials say EMS workers responded to the scene, but the victim chose not to go to the hospital.

Smith was taken to Louisville Metro Corrections. She is charged with first-degree assault.

She is due in court on Wednesday.
