LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville woman has been charged with reckless homicide months after police say she crashed into a motorcyclist, killing him and seriously injuring his passenger.
According to an arrest warrant, 19-year-old Michelle Wyatt was high on marijuana at 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, while she was driving her Jeep Liberty near the intersection of John Harper Highway and Running Creek Drive in Bullitt County.
Police say that at the same time, 32-year-old Aaron Jennette and 30-year-old Tiffany Banules were riding a motorcycle west on John Harper Road. While preparing to make a left turn onto Running Creek Drive, police say Wyatt drove into them.
Jennette and Banules were ejected from the motorcycle. Jennette was thrown into the eastbound lane of John Harper Road where he was hit by a Toyota Highlander. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.
At the time, Banules was transported to the hospital with critical injuries and Wyatt was transported with minor injuries.
Police initially said drugs and alcohol did not appear to have been a contributing factor in the crash, but since then, they say they have determined that Wyatt was under the influence of marijuana.
They also say the vehicle she was driving had no registration plates or insurance.
On Nov. 13, a warrant was issued for her arrest. She was taken into custody on Thursday. She's charged with reckless homicide, first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving without registration plates, failure of a vehicle owner to maintain required insurance and failure of a motor vehicle owner to register the transfer of a motor vehicle.
She is currently being held in the Bullitt County Detention Center.
