LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Water has installed a new section of water main at Clay and Oak Streets in the Shelby Park neighborhood this weekend after it ruptured Tuesday morning.

Louisville Water spokesperson Kelley Dearing-Smith said in a news release Sunday evening that crews also replaced a 48-inch valve near Oak and Preston Street, that was an original valve installed with that pipe in 1893.

Crews will begin the next phase of repairs on Monday, including inspections of the new pipe, filling it with water, and preparing it to resume service.

Dearing-Smith said Louisville Water crews will keep working in the area throughout the week to clean the site and neighboring streets after the valve replacement.
