LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Flu activity in Kentucky is now widespread for the first time this season.

Widespread activity is the highest level of flu activity. That means there is flu-like activity or flu outbreaks in at least half of the regions in the state.

Flu season lasts from October through May.

Officials say flu activity began earlier this season than usual.

There is still time to get a flu shot. It's recommended for children of ages 6 months and older, as well as those people at high risk for complications related to the flu.
