Special election set for February to fill Rep. Dan Johnson's seat in the Ky. House
The approaching deadline for candidates to declare their intent.
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WDRB) -- A special election is scheduled for February to fill the Kentucky House seat of the late Rep. Dan Johnson.
The Kentucky Secretary of State's Office says the special election for District 49 will be February 20, 2018.
The deadline in House District 49 for Republican and Democratic candidates nominated by their party and independent candidates to file their certificates, petitions and declarations with the Secretary of State is Jan. 2 at 4 p.m. EST.
Write-in candidates must file declarations of intent to be write-in candidates no later than Feb. 9 at 4 p.m. EST.
Johnson died from a single gunshot wound to the head on Dec. 13, according to the Bullitt County Coroner. He had been under investigation for alleged sexual molestation. His widow, Rebecca Johnson, said she is interested in running for his seat.
