Community mourns Okolona firefighter who died of cancer
Late last month, Sgt. Jeff Kampschaefer was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Okolona firefighter has died of cancer.
According to a news release from the Okolona Fire Department, Sgt. Jeff Kampschaefer passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 20, one month after he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Sgt. Kampschaefer had been with the Okolona Fire Department since Sept. 2007. He also served as a volunteer member of the Lake Dreamland Fire Department and a part-time firefighter with the Camp Taylor Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah, and his two children, 7-year-old Payton and 3-year-old Aiden. Funeral arrangements are still pending.
"The Okolona Fire Department would like to extend their deepest condolences to the Kampschaefer family and all those who knew Jeff," the news release states.
