Gas prices to drop in northern Kentucky

Posted: Updated:

COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Motorists in northern Kentucky will start paying less at the gas pumps when reformulated gas goes away on July 1.

The Kentucky Enquirer reports that drivers pay about 15 cents more per gallon in Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties compared to Ohio.

Brent Cooper, president and CEO of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, says more than $41 million in savings is expected next year for gas consumers in the three counties.

He says the difference in gas prices can be as much as 22 cents per gallon at times when prices are higher.

On Monday, the Environmental Protection Agency approved Kentucky's decision to eliminate reformulated gasoline requirements in northern Kentucky. Kentucky started using reformulated gas in 1995 in northern Kentucky to meet standards of the federal Clean Air Act.
