LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Meade County, Kentucky, man has been arrested after police say he robbed a man and shot him several times in Vine Grove.

According to Trooper Jeff Gregory, spokesman for Kentucky State Police, the incident took place on Thursday, April 12, just after 6 p.m.

Police were sent to Sandridge Road, near Rineyville Road, after a man had been shot several times outside his vehicle. When police spoke to the man, he said he had been robbed at gunpoint.

Gregory said the victim was taken via helicopter to University Hospital in stable condition. He has since been treated and released, according to Gregory.

Police say they identified 18-year-old Luke Hayes as the suspect. He was arrested Saturday morning during a traffic stop on Lincoln Parkway, headed toward Elizabethtown. He's charged with first-degree assault and first-degree robbery.

Hayes is currently being held at the LaRue County Detention Center.
